Best NoFo Spots Whether You’re Apple Picking or “Pic’ing!”

There are two kinds of people in this world; those who apple pick and those who apple “pic.”  If you know the difference between a McIntosh and a Gala, then you are most definitely a picker. If you don’t, then I’m guessing you’re like me and just want to go to hang out with friends and take pictures.  Either way, apple picking is  one of the funnest fall activities to do, especially in the North Fork! But not everyone goes for the same reason. Some people have children, some people don’t. Some are just looking for a date spot and others are going to get the main ingredient for their next pie.  Here are a list of the perfect places to go for every situation!

Harbes Orchard

Harbes is probably the largest and most well know farms on the fork. This is definitely the best all-around spot to go, very family oriented but certainly just as fun to go if you are with a bunch of friends.  They have 15 acres of apples for the pickers, and tons of activities for the kids to do.  There is also a huge area set out with picnic tables and cornhole for everyone to enjoy.  The orchard can accommodate a lot of people, so just prepared for the crowd, which is basically unavoidable around this time of year.

Harbes Orchard is located 5698 Sound Ave. Riverhead, NY 11901.

Wickham’s Fruit Farms

If you are looking for some pretty pictures, get your Instagram filters ready and head here! Probably the most charming of them all, this place starts you off on a tractor ride through their farm and amazes you with scenic backdrops of pumpkin patches, orchards, old barns, and acres of beautiful land.  Hidden throughout the apple trees they even have old rustic ladders and crates that make great props to add to any photo.  This orchard is great for adults and groups of friends, but not the best place for children.  They don’t have any elaborate activities to keep the kiddos occupied, but certainly bring them if you are looking for your next family photo!

Woodside Orchards

Woodside is like the “bar” of apple picking.  Perfect for younger crowds, small groups of friends, and couples without children. Their red barn is filled with nothing but hard apple cider, donuts, cookies and pie. Its pretty much the best place ever for adults.  Outside they have a small yard filled with a few picnic tables, adirondack chairs and cute little fire pit surrounded by wine barrell tables.  They also have 2 cornhole games set up which gives this place a very backyard feel.  To top it all off, they have music playing from artists like the Dave Matthews Band to give it that very chill vibe.  They, of course, have apple orchards as well, but something tells me that is not the main attraction at this particular place.  Just keep in mind it is small, so if you go on a crowded day, you most likely will not get a place to sit down.

Woodside Orchards is located at 729 Main Rd. Aquebogue, NY 11931.
